A community partnership and charity game between Dryden’s Domtar Mill, staff and the Dryden GM Ice Dogs has resulted in an over $2,200 donation for the community.
To kick off the Ice Dogs’ 2022-2023 season, Domtar became the very first Home Game Goal Sponsor for the Ice Dogs. This meant that for every goal scored at home by the Dogs, Domtar would provide $100 to be donated to Community Living – Dryden and Sioux Lookout.
“This is such a key partnership for the club, with Domtar, who is clearly a major economic and societal driver for our community,” said President Mike Sveinson.
“These are the types of partnerships we seek, and we are grateful to Adi Lang, Lori Russel, and Dianne Loewen for their work on this. We couldn’t be prouder to work closely with Domtar to help achieve our mutual goals,” he adds.
With 18 goals through the first month of the season, Domtar had pledged $1,800. Staff then presented the cheque to the team during a charity hockey game, between members of the mill and the Ice Dogs.
The ‘Dryden Mill River Rats’ with Domtar employees included former Ice Dogs players and alumni, and they took the Ice Dogs to the edge with a final score of 7-7.
The charity hockey game also included a free book giveaway by Domtar, a 50/50 ‘chuck a puck’ contest and a grand prize draw with all of the proceeds being donated back to Community Living – Dryden and Sioux Lookout. In total, the partnership raised $2,262.
“This has been an amazing partnership with great results”, says Marie Cyr, Domtar’s General Manager. “This couldn’t have happened without our employees who gave their time to play the game and to volunteer at the event helping to make the charity game a huge success.”
The Dryden GM Ice Dogs are now fundraising for their Pink the Rink game in support of the Dryden Regional Health Centre on November 26.
