The Brothers Grimm's age-old tale of Hansel and Gretel is coming to the Shell Theatre in Fort Saskatchewan.

The play, put on by Missoula Children's Theatre, premieres on Friday (Nov. 11) at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Around 30 members of the cast and crew are children from Fort Saskatchewan.

Hansel & Gretel tells the story of a brother and sister who fall into the hands of a witch who lives in a house made of candy and gingerbread. Little do the siblings know, the witch has a dark secret.

What makes this production so unique is that auditions were on Monday (Nov. 7), giving the cast and crew five days to rehearse and perform the play.

Josh Gennings, the supervisor with Shell Theatre, says that despite the time crunch, the kids are doing amazing.

"They rehearse every night leading up to the show," Gennings said. "It's a great opportunity for them to live and learn right in the theatre environment."

Tickets for the show are still available and can be purchased on the Shell Theatre's website.
