Two of the most memorable players from the Jets 1.0 were in Winnipeg last night for a special ceremony before the Jets took on the Ducks.
The Jets inducted Teemu Selanne and Teppo Numminen into their Hall of Fame in a jersey-unveiling ceremony before the puck drop.
Selanne, a.k.a. the “Finnish Flash,” scored 306 points (147 goals) in 231 games with the Jets in four seasons before being traded to Anaheim in late 1996.
Selanne set a rookie scoring record in 1992-93 with 76 goals and 132 points. It remains the league record for most goals and points by a rookie and earned him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the top first-year player in the NHL.
Selanne scored 50 goals in a season three times and topped 100 points on four occasions.
Numminen played eight seasons in Winnipeg before moving to Phoenix with the franchise and played another seven years there.
The defenceman, who also played for Dallas and Buffalo, finished with 637 points) 117 goals) in 1,372 NHL career games.
The fans gave a raucous standing ovation to both, who appeared emotional. But neither one addressed the crowd.
