Northwestern Ontario residents are asked to come out and support those in need in the community this weekend with the return of two major fundraising events.

The CP Holiday Train is scheduled to make its way through northwestern Ontario on Saturday, featuring the musical talents of Aysanabee of Sandy Lake First Nation and Tenille Townes.

CP’s schedule says the train will stop in Dryden by 11:30 a.m., Vermilion Bay by 1 p.m. and Kenora by 3:20 p.m, as staff hope to collect as much food and raise as much money as they can for food banks across the country.

“After two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are more than happy to be back out on the rails bringing our beautiful train of lights to communities across out network“ said CP Spokesperson Salem Woodrow.

Since 1999, the CP Holiday Train has helped raise over $20 million and helped to collect over 5 million pounds of food for food banks and those in need across Canada.

But before train rolls through town, Kenora residents are invited down to No Frills, Canadian Tire, Safeway or Walmart as Kenora’s police officers work their annual Stuff-A-Cruiser events to collect unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items and cash for those in need over the holidays.

The Kenora OPP, Treaty Three Police Service and the City of Kenora are teaming up to host the Stuff-A-Cruiser fundraiser this year, as well as the 4 local businesses and the Salvation Army.

Staff will be at each location collecting donations between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
