Joseph James Gesiorowski
October 9, 1929 – December 3, 2022

Joseph James Gesiorowski of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, Saskatchewan, (and formerly of the Guernsey district, SK), passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022. He was 93 years of age. Joseph was born to Charles and Annie (née Hudyma) Gesiorowski on Wednesday, October 9, 1929, at home in Plunkett, SK. He attended school in Glynfield, which is in the Plunkett district. In 1946 and 1947, Joseph worked at a bush camp at Flanders, Ontario. As well, he worked in the head office in Fort Frances, ON, as a general labourer. He then decided to go onto piece work cutting pulp. On October 20, 1953, Joseph married Phillis Twarzynski in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church at Sinnett, SK. They began their life together on their farm five miles north of Guernsey. Joseph and Phillis’ union was blessed with three children, Leonard, Kathy, and Helen. In 1982, Joseph and Phillis built a new home in Guernsey and moved in November of that year. Even though their son Leonard took over the farm in 1982, Joseph held an active role in the farming operation, retiring in 2017. Joseph’s passion was farming! He enjoyed checking out the crops, listening to music, and playing the mouth organ for his grandchildren, family, and friends. Joseph loved to build on the farm. Some items he built were a fertilizer hopper, front end loader, stone picker, cattle trailer, press, and three tractor cabs. Joseph was a member of the Guernsey Wheat Pool for over 20 years. A community minded person, in 1985, he was elected as Councillor, and in 1990 he was voted Mayor of Guernsey, a position he held for 15 years. Due to failing health, in January 2022, Joseph became a resident of Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan, SK. In April of 2022, he was transferred to St. Mary’s Villa, his home until the present. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his three children, eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren: Leonard (Rose) Gesiorowski of Humboldt, SK, and family, Crystal (Eric) Kosokowsky and their family, Joel, Hayden and Lily Kosokowsky, Carla (Lonny) Hueser and their son Mason Hueser, and Amanda (Jason) Kosokowsky and their family Madison and Riley Kosokowsky; Kathryn (Richard) Gossner of Warman, SK, and family, Angela (Darryl) Van Os, Brent (Leanne) Gossner and their family, Marissa and Harper Gossner, and Cheryl (Brad) Krawchuk and their family, Madison and Mia Krawchuk; and Helen (Randall) King of Regina, SK, and family, Allison (Michael) Tramer and their son Bodhi Tramer, and Marcus (Kara) King and their family, Tanner and Emily King. Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Phillis Gesiorowski; his parents, Charles and Annie (née Hudyma) Gesiorowski; and by his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Olga Gesiorowski. The Funeral Mass was offered for Joseph at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lanigan, on Saturday, December 20, 2022, at 2:30 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor. Others taking part were: Michael Twarzynski, cross bearer; Laura Novecosky and Marilyn Bieber, scripture readers; Karen Ehry, prayers of the faithful; Joel Kosokowsky and Hayden Kosokowsky, gift bearers; and Crystal Kosokowsky and Amanda Kosokowsky, memorial table attendants. “All those who shared in Joseph’s life,” were noted as honorary pallbearers, and active pallbearers were: Brent Gossner, Marcus King, Don Gesiorowski, Ron Suchy, Rick Suchy, and Nathan Twarzynski.
