As Southern Manitoba faces the brunt of a second round of snowfall from a stubborn Colorado low, road conditions throughout the region continue to deteriorate. As a result, Pembina Valley RCMP has begun closing highways in the region.

According to the province's 511 map, as of 5:05 p.m. Thursday, the closures include:

Highway 3 from Carman south to the Boundary Trails junction, then west to Highway 34

Highway 13 south from Elm Creek to Carman

Highway 23 from Highway 3 west to Swan Lake

Highway 14 from Rosenfeld to the Junction of Highway 3

Highway 201 from Altona east to Highway 32

Highway 32 from Winkler to the U.S. Border

 

Garden Valley School Division has announced all GVSD school bus routes will be canceled for the afternoon on Thursday December 15th due to road and weather conditions. Parents are asked to pick up their children as soon as possible. Schools will remain open until all children have been picked up.

Western School Division has cancelled its afternoon rural buses. Billet procedures for rural students be activated. Please expect to be contacted by your child's school, or you can reach out to them for specific details. Schools will remain open for the afternoon. Afternoon city bus routes will still operate as usual.

Border Land School Division school buses WILL be running this afternoon. Parents have been notified but to expect delays.

Prairie Rose School Division has announced it has cancelled bus service for Regions A and B for Thursday afternoon, which includes the communities of Miami, Roland, Carman, Elm Creek, Elie, St. Francois Xavier, St. Eustache.

Prairie Spirit School Division school buses will not run at the end of the Thursday. Schools are activating the billet process.

Special Weather Statements remain in effect across the region, with additional accumulations of 5-10cm from noon Thursday into Friday. Northerly wind gusts of 60 to 70 km/h will continue Thursday afternoon into Friday. These gusts will produce reduced visibilities, especially in combination with the falling snow Thursday night into Friday.
