Teaching in the North is an experience, and right now several opportunities have become available.
Matawa First Nations works with First Nations education leaders, principals, teachers, and many others to recruit and select teachers. Right now, they’re seeking teachers with the motivation, aptitude, and ability to live and work in a northern First Nation community.
Emmanuel Ogor has taught at Neskantaga Education Centre for 10 years. He says there are many benefits to this role, particularly the chance to learn about Indigenous culture in a breathtakingly beautiful natural environment.
“The kids call me Mr. O.,” he shares. “Through my experience in the North, I’ve gained valuable learning experiences and have grown so much as an educator! I enjoy making a positive difference in the lives of the students that go through my classroom, being a role model so students can chart for themselves a bright future.”
Ogor appreciates the support he receives and all educational resources are provided. He deeply values this priceless opportunity to get to know and appreciate First Nations People and their ways of life. He says the work environment is friendly, and he enjoys being surrounded by caring people, in a small, walk-able, tight-knit community.
Not only are the staff and students like one big family, but living in a beautiful natural region with access to outdoor activities and adventure, in the midst of nature, traditions, and culture, has had a large impact on Ogor.
