Stewart Kakeeway passed away suddenly on December 18, 2022 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital
He is predeceased by his parents, Napoleon Kakeeway and Madeline Bird. Siblings, Larry, Marcella, Cecilia, Gabriel and Noreen. Aunties Rosaline and Margaret Gauthier and uncle Percy Gauthier (Punchese), Tataton William Gauthier and Mamanon Mary Jane Kelly. Brother in laws, Dan Cameron and Allan Lachinette Sr., buddies Alfred Henry and Kerry Carpenter.
Stewart is survived by his long time partner of 52 years, Celene. His children Darren Robin (Clay), Janis, Carol (Ryan) and Barbara (Amos). His brothers Kenny (Karen), Mark (Darlin), Geraldine and Charlene, grandchildren, Zachery, Kai, Kam, Kiefer, Robynace, Caylee, Theoren (Angie), Braeden, Bryce and Amos Jr. and great grandchildren, Creedence, Lennox, Thalia and Lakeyn. He also leaves behind his granddaughter McKenna, with whom he had a special bond. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention. You know who you are.
Stewart spent many of days doing what he loved best, fishing. He spent many years guiding at Jim’s Caviar, Tomahawk Resort, Totem Lodge and Bending Lake Lodge. Fishing and being out on the lake was his passion, along with commercial fishing. He also enjoyed hunting and trapping around the Lake of the Woods.
Stewart was also an avid hockey player with the Whitefish Bay Rangers for many years then retired at the age of 48, spending time with his grandchildren was what he loved the most, he loved his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Naotkamegwanning EMS Services, Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, the Band Office and Peshigoneb Community Hall workers.
Wake Services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Noon. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 11:00 am at Peshigoneb Community Hall with Elder Mervin Ningewance officiating, with interment to follow in Whitefish Bay.
Pallbearers will be Clayton White, Mark Kakeeway, Michael Kakeeway, Brady Chandler, Troy White, Josh Tom, Sean Cameron and Ryan Kowalchuk. Honorary pallbearers will Brian Major, Joe Andy, Terry Green, Darrell Mandamin, Eldon Copenace, Brad Chandler, Doug Chandler and Whitefish Bay Rangers.
