There's no doubt about it, it was a windy Friday afternoon in parts of southern Manitoba. Just how windy was it? So windy it overturned a semi-trailer hauling a wind turbine blade!
According to eyewitnesses and information shared on the Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services (ARES) Facebook page, the incident occurred mid-afternoon Friday on Highway 14, about 7kms east of Rosenfeld.
According to the Manitoba Ag Weather network, a peak wind gust of 55 km/h from the south was recorded in the Altona area.
Around 3:50 pm, ARES responded to a report of a vehicle upside down in a ditch. The vehicle was a large truck hauling a blade for a wind turbine that was overturned by the wind. There were no injuries.
Motorists reported crews were at the site most of the day Saturday working on overturning the truck, and loading the blade onto another flat bed trailer. That was completed shortly before 5 p.m., with the semi carrying the blade last seen heading westbound on Highway 14 toward Winkler.
