The Weyburn Beavers will be bringing back their Sports Dinner this spring, and they will be bringing a big name to town for it. Just over a week after the WCBL season starts, the dinner will be held on June 2nd.

This year, the club will be welcoming former Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons to town for the event. Gibbons was the guest for the last Sports Dinner, which was held virtually in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I knew as soon as we had that, that if and when we got back to normal times he was right at the top of our list, so we were able to secure him for that first weekend of June,” said Beavers president Garnet Hansen.

This year, they are anticipating a larger crowd, and are looking to hold the event at the Weyburn Curling Rink.

The Sports Dinner is also giving the Beavers a reason to make a slight change to their schedule. Initially, they were to play the Regina Red Sox at Tom Laing Park on June 3rd in the evening. The game is being moved to a matinee affair to allow Gibbons to be at the game and to throw out the first pitch.

There are also some plans in the works for a skills development session to be held at the Spark Centre on the morning of June 3rd.

Tickets for the event are now available. In order to book tables, you can contact the Beavers through their website.
