It was another successful weekend for the Portage Judo Club as they brought home some hardware.
Brian Case, head coach of Portage Judo Club said he is very proud of their athletes.
"The tournament was the Balmorals Open Judo tournament, which was held on Saturday, in Stonewall and there were 105 competitors there. We had twenty of them from Portage and of the 20 competitors we had from Portage, they managed to accumulate 25 medals, so it was quite a day for the local club."
He also mentions that there were some pretty big battles over the weekend.
"The youngest ones it's their first tournament and then they medal. That's got to be the biggest. Seeing the fact of all the techniques that you're trying to teach them throughout the year actually happen was probably the biggest achievement we've got."
Wade Campbell, Charlotte Semchuk, Elliot Verwey,Owen Bevan,Tennyson Verwey,and Wade Campbell all received gold medals this past weekend.
Tanner Roy,Avery-May Campbell, Geraldine Orchard, Corwin Wallace, Kaylyn Wallace, Dexter Semchuk, David Bevan, Charlotte McBurney-Cormier,Tanner Roy, and Wade Campbell all received silver medals.
Chysom Scott, Nyx Paton, Fergus Semchuk, Harrison Semchuk,Tristan Jenner, David Bevan,Tennyson Verwey, and Chysom Scott all received bronze medals.
Case also mentions that they have a big tournament coming up on April 22nd in Portage and he cannot wait to see how the athletes will place.
"Due to the results that we saw on Saturday, it looks like everybody's peaking and we're hoping to have a great competition."
