Overland flood waters are impacting a number of roads in the Municipality of Killarney Turtle Mountain.
Mayor Janice Smith says crews working and monitoring the rural roads report several have water issues and a few have been closed. “We’re pretty wet and the roads are soft. About 70 per cent of the roads south of town have water running over them.”
Smith hopes rainfall amounts don’t climb too high because that could put the municipality in what she calls a troublesome spot.
“Our rural foreman says he’s seen it worse but it certainly isn’t great out there,” said Janice Smith.
“Anyone thinking of driving on rural roads south of town is urged to limit their travel if they can. Speed is a huge factor in road deterioration and with the roads heavy and mucky they aren’t going to be going too fast anyways.”
Janice Smith says workers are making sure culverts remain cleared and the water continues to flow.
