Council for the Municipality of Rhineland wants to develop an overall drainage strategy for the municipality.

The effort stems from a priority that came out the group's strategic planning session at the end of 2022, calling for a review of the Municipality's drainage network, explained Reeve Don Wiebe.

"We want to do this in light of changing weather patterns, field drainage, irrigation and tile drainage."

At its last meeting, Council passed a resolution to send an application to the Manitoba Municipal Capacity Building Fund for money to pay for a feasibility study.

"This plan would provide a guide to our drainage concerns and help with a holistic plan instead of the current practice of looking at individual projects, sometimes with unforseen consequences," added Wiebe.

Development of such a strategy would involve participation from landowners, various provincial departments and the Pembina Valley Watershed District.
