Police dog helps with arrest over two stolen vehicles

St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle on Road 30N at Road 28E, in the RM of Hanover. It happened on April 14, 2023, at about 12:00 p.m.

RCMP attended and located the abandoned vehicle and a second vehicle beside it. A man was seen beside the second vehicle and when he saw police, he got into the vehicle and fled.

A road chase ensued and a traffic stop was followed by a chase on foot.

The area was contained and Police Dog Services were deployed. At about 2:30 p.m., Police Service Dog Mocha and her handler tracked the suspect to a wooded area and he was arrested without incident.

The investigation determined that both vehicles were stolen.

Steven Wiebe, 32, from the RM of Hanover has been charged with:

• Flight from Police
• Resisting Arrest
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x3
• Drive While Prohibited
• Fail to Comply
