The Fort Saskatchewan Rotary Club is offering a pair of scholarships to local students.
Applications are now being accepted for two of their annual scholarships. One is available for students attending college or university while the other is being offered to students going to a technical institute or trade school.
Both scholarships are worth $1000.
"It's important to Rotary [to offer these scholarships] because it's part of our vision and mission," said James Skeoch, the incoming president-elect of the club. "We are about promoting youth, promoting the future, and we really appreciate education."
"We like to see these groups develop and become successful because they are our future."
Applicants are limited to students attending Fort Saskatchewan schools. Students who need to leave Fort Saskatchewan for their schooling due to a lack of proper programming in the city (French immersion, etc.) can also apply for the scholarships.
Skeoch says there are a few things that they look for in potential scholarship winners.
"Showing leadership in your community, school, and volunteering is huge," said Skeoch. "Obviously good grades and that but being well-rounded."
"Examples of volunteering in the community, showing leadership in a group, maybe running for school council, stuff like that are key things that stick out for these types of scholarships."
Applications are being accepted until July 30th and you can get the appropriate forms by visiting the club's website or asking a guidance councillor at Fort High, St. Andre Bessette, or NextStep High School.
