It's been 80 years since the 4-H Beef Club started in Fort Saskatchewan.
To celebrate this milestone, the club is hosting an anniversary celebration at the Moyer Rec Centre in Josephburg on May 28.
The 4-H beef club is open for kids in the area between the ages of 6 and 21.
"They learn so much. It's not just about taking care of animals, it's about giving back to your community and working hard," said Lea Appleman, general leader of the club. "It teaches the kids ethics and gives them goals and things to strive for."
Most of the club's show and sales reach an audience of about 150 people, but Appleman is expecting that number to double for this special year.
"We'd just like to invite past members, family, and alumni to come out and celebrate with us," added Appleman. "When it started, it was just a group of farm kids trying to do right by their community and raise animals."
The event begins at 9 a.m. with a steer show before a lasagna lunch, and finally sales at 3 p.m. There is no cost for admission.
