The nice weather has brought more cyclists back onto our roadways, and the Morden Police Service is taking it as an opportunity to share some reminders.

When on the roadway, police say to be aware of potential dangers and parked vehicles, always travel single file in the same direction as the traffic flow, and obey the same traffic signals and signs that vehicles do. This includes stopping at stop signs and red lights.

Using hand signals, wearing bright clothing, and always wearing a safety helmet will also aid in keeping you safe.

In Manitoba, it is the law that anyone under the age of 18 years must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet while cycling.

Police are also asking parents to remind children to share the sidewalks, either with pedestrians, dogs, or other young cyclists. Whether you are cycling or scootering, always be aware of your surroundings when using the sidewalks, especially at intersections, driveways, and back lanes, as vehicle drivers and pedestrians may not see you.

For busier streets like Thornhill Street and Mountain Street, Morden Police say traveling on the sidewalk is safer for all cyclists if they respect pedestrians and do so
safely.

Meanwhile, Morden Police were dispatched to a local business early Saturday morning, responding to a call regarding an assault.

Police arrived at the scene to find two intoxicated females who had assaulted a male.

A 29-year-old female was arrested for assault and released on an Undertaking to appear in Morden Provincial Court in July.

Meanwhile, after further investigation, police discovered the 33-year-old female had 3 outstanding warrants from other police agencies.

She was arrested on the strength of the 3 warrants as well for assault and Identity Fraud.
