Gladys Jean (Bruce) Wishart

1931 – 2023

Gladys passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 at Brandon Regional Health Centre in Brandon MB.

Gladys was born on September 28th, 1931 in Selkirk MB and was raised for the first twelve years of her life at Libau, Manitoba. She was the 6th of seven children (Reg, Lizzy, Grace, Russell, Hazel, Mel) born to Victor and Daisy (McLean) Bruce, all of whom have predeceased her.

The day after her 12th birthday, the family moved to the Portage area. The farm was known for its locally famous Hill round barn.

Before marrying Bud (Walter Lloyd) Wishart in 1957, Gladys worked at the Portage Mutual Insurance Company and Eaton's. Her volunteering included the Prospect Ladies, the

Horticultural Society and the Art Gallery where she also enjoyed taking classes.

On the farm where she lived with Bud, she was always planting trees and shrubs and growing a big garden, the results of which she enjoyed sharing with everyone.

She took joy in watching the myriad of birds that came to her feeder and taking in each day's beautiful sunset. With great fondness, she would remember the musical gatherings of her childhood.

Gladys lived in Portage and area for 77 years and was sad to leave it for Brandon where she lived for the past two years in order to be closer to her daughter and family.

Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Kelly (Jim) and granddaughter, Leah (Bry) along with

several nieces and nephews and their families on both the Wishart and Bruce sides of the family.
