There was a show and sale to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Fort Saskatchewan 4-H Beef Club.
The free event took place at the Moyer Rec Centre in Josephburg on Sunday (May 28) and featured a steer show, a lasagna lunch, and finished off with the sales.
"It's been a busy weekend. Everybody's running on very little sleep," said Lea Appleman, general leader of the club.
"It's an entire year of prep for this, and the week leading up to this is insane. All of the parents and leaders are excited for it to be done."
During the steer show, there were two sets of judges. One set was to judge the steer, while another was to judge the showmanship of the members.
"It's my favourite part because it's not about the animal, it's about the member and how well they know the animal, how well they can handle the animal, and their entire presence in the show ring," said Appleman. "That's what they are judged on, is how they handle themselves."
Appleman added that it's great to see how far some of their members have come in the last year.
"You get kids that are a little bit shy and kind of in their shell, and all of a sudden they've made friends and they rock it in the show ring. It's amazing to watch."
Once the show was over, Appleman said she was looking forward to taking some time to relax.
"We do a few things. We do a picnic and parade and a big wind-up. Basically, we're done until September."
