Fort Saskatchewan residents will now be able to enjoy the taste of Texan BBQ.
Dickey's Barbecue Pit has officially opened up in Southpointe, with their grand opening set for today.
"We [didn't] have any unique BBQ restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan so we planned to bring in a world-known BBQ restaurant," said Sajeev Kottackl Joseph, one of the owners of the Fort Sask location.
Joseph was joined by two other partners, Albin Georg and Jinu Jose, in bringing the franchise into the community.
"We have been in the restaurant field for nearly 20 years," said Joseph. "It was always Dickey's [that we wanted to bring here]."
Jim Perkins, the executive vice president of international sales with Dickey's, made the trip to the Fort all the way from Dallas, Texas to check out the store.
He is excited to bring something unique to the community.
"What we can offer the community, first and foremost, is a place to meet, a place to gather," said Perkins. "BBQ in essence is slowly eating good food with even better conversation."
"We also offer real true authentic BBQ."
The restaurant has its roots in Texas, having first been opened up in Dallas way back in 1941, and it's the similarities between the state and Alberta that made this a match made in heaven.
"We chose Alberta for a reason," said Perkins. "Oil and oil, cattle and cattle, mindset and mindset, listen when I came to Alberta, I thought I was in Texas."
People itching to get a taste of what Dickey's has to offer won't be disappointed as they have a wide selection of brisket, pork ribs, and pulled pork to go alongside classic southern sides dishes like barbecue beans, green beans with bacon, crispy fried okra, and, of course, the classic mac and cheese.
If you're asking the owners, the thing you have to try is obvious.
"The best is the brisket," said Joseph.
