The Strathcona Synatics are June's winners of the Half Grand Helping Hand courtesy of South Fort Chevrolet and MIX 107!
Having been a fixture in the community for the past 35 years, the Synatics are overjoyed to be able to have some extra cash to help out its members.
"We want to keep the costs affordable so everyone who is interested can participate," said Deanna Bellamy, the president of the club. "[This] will be going [toward] trying to keep the costs of programs in a range that is affordable."
Having been around so long, the club has deep roots in the community. They are hoping to keep spreading the sport through the region.
"Synchronized swimming is a sport that is compared to gymnastics or dancing in the water," said Christine Kuntscher, a coach with the club. "I love the sport, it's such a different experience to other sports I have been a part of in my life."
Obviously, with the pandemic, the club saw its membership drop by a bit as pools were closed to the public, but that has been steadily improving.
"Like other clubs, we are seeing interest come back and registration numbers are slowly but surely coming up," said Bellamy. "The Half Grand Helping Hand is helpful when we are growing again."
The club will be hosting a trial event for people who are interested in joining the club on June 18.
"We encourage anybody if they are wondering, come and try," said Bellamy. "It's for any age, our club goes from ages six to 20, but the sport can be for any age."
