Fort Saskatchewan's Farmers' Market has opened for the summer.
Hosted by the Fort Saskatchewan and Lamont Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Farmers' Market happens every Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the CN Station.
Abby Corbett with the chamber says a bunch was done to get the market going.
"There was a lot. You had to organize all the booths and take all the payments. It was a bunch of work, but it was worth it. Everybody is having a great time," said Corbett.
The Farmers' Market features dozens of local vendors, and even a free performance at the Bandshell Stage in Legacy Park, right next to the parking lot.
"We have some clothing vendors, some lemonade. We have perogies, some baked goods, and a lot of alcohol. We have green onion cakes and lots of fresh fruit. Typical Farmers' Market works."
There was a huge turnout for the market's opening. The chamber was giving free hot dogs to the first 1000 attendees, and Corbett said they ran out in about an hour.
"It really brings the community in, and everyone has a place to be. You can come and see each other, especially when it's warm outside. It gives you a reason to go outside and get talking," said Corbett. "Especially in a small city, to be able to support local [business] is great."
