A former taekwondo instructor from Sherwood Park has been sentenced to just over two years in prison.
Michael Chung pleaded guilty to child luring and making sexually explicit material to a child -- the victim was the underage sister of Chung's wife.
Over the course of five months, over 1,300 messages were sent between Chung and the victim. The messages were explicit, and once included a video call where Chung exposed his penis and masturbated in front of the victim.
Chung claims to have been drinking alcohol and using cocaine when he would send these messages.
As the victim's taekwondo instructor, Chung first met the victim when she was just seven years old. He also began a relationship with the victim's sister when she was 15 and he was around 30. This led to the victim's sister being estranged from her family for several years before becoming Chung's wife.
The crown prosecutor had asked that he be sentenced to four years in prison, while Chung's defense asked for two years of house arrest followed by three years of probation.
In the end, Chung was sentenced to 27 months in prison.
