The community of Moose Jaw sadly lost a pillar on Sunday, June 18, 2023, when George Milton McBride passed away. Milton is survived by his children; Aaron McBride, Shannon Strole (née McBride), and Christopher McBride, along with their spouses and children. Milton was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda; stepbrother Earl; stepbrother Harold; stepsister Noreen; and grandson McCade.
Milt was born in Caron, SK to Harold and Gladys McBride. His memories on the farm were fondly remembered, this served as his reason for returning to Mortlach, SK to teach after completing his degree through the University of Regina. Milt’s passion for students was evident in all that he did. He served as a teacher, a coach, and as vice-principal. Known for being quite the prankster at work, Milt loved his colleagues and built long-lasting friendships with all. His fondest memories were of the grade 12 overnight camping trip where everyone learned to canoe, portage, and “compass through the woods.” Mr. McBride impacted hundreds of lives by serving the community of Mortlach for 32 years. Upon his retirement, the community honored him by naming the Mortlach football field, McBride Field.
Milt met the love of his life, Linda, on a blind date, leading to 45 years of happiness. Together, they lived life to the fullest whether it be through their travels or by supporting their community. They enjoyed camping at Buffalo Pound, boating on the lake, curling, watching the Riders, their dog Piper, driving the MGB, supporting the Millers, and especially when they served on the board of White Track. Linda’s sudden passing in 2016 was devastating to Milt. There is peace in knowing they are reunited again for eternity.
The simplest pleasures of life brought great joy to Milt. He loved people and was always ready to share a story about his family or a memory from the past. It was his nature to never complain, and he sought to find a solution to every problem. He will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of compassion and humor, his love for his family and for the impact he had on the lives of others. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with as well as those he reached but never met.
Please join us in a Celebration of Life to share your stories of remembrance on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Mortlach School from 2- 4 p.m. Help his kindness, loyalty and compassion continue by making a donation to the Moose Jaw Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to the staff at West Park Crossing for the excellent care provided. In living memory of Milt, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
