With the Canada Day weekend kicking off this evening, where in the area can you start a fire?
After a dry and hot start to the spring, many places in Alberta placed fire bans in effect to prevent fires from starting.
With the recent rain and cooler temperatures, there are no more fire bans in the area. However, there are a few places with fire restrictions and fire advisories.
A fire restriction allows people to use outdoor firepits and any type of barbecue. The only restriction is that all fire pits must be in a non-combustible structure, have a screen, and be located at least three metres away from structures, fences, decks, and trees.
Fort Saskatchewan is the only municipality in the area to have a fire restriction in place. Despite fire strictions not allowing fireworks, there will still be fireworks for the Canada Day celebrations.
On the other hand, there are fire advisories, which allows all open fires and burning, but with some fire permits still being suspended. Currently, only Strathcona County and Lamont County have a fire advisory in place.
Towns such as Bruderheim, Bon Accord, Gibbons, Morinville, and Redwater have no fire hazards in place, with all types of burning allowed.
