The Paper Bag Fairies took home July's Half Grand Helping Hand, courtesy of South Fort Chevrolet and MIX 107.9.
The Paper Bag Fairies was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, when founder Kath Stevenson wanted to help out the seniors of Fort Saskatchewan.
"The Rivercrest Nursing Home lost twelve residents to COVID," said Stevenson. "Our hearts were breaking for them, and we wanted to let them know we were thinking about them. So we put together a care package and delivered it."
These care packages carry a variety of items, from homemade gift cards to cupcakes. Since starting at the Rivercrest Nursing Home, the Paper Bag Fairies have moved to helping every nursing home in Fort Saskatchewan, and even one in Josephburg.
One of their recent ventures was teaming up with the Rotary Club to donate cupcakes and Canadian flags to local nursing homes for Canada Day.
Stevenson added that this Half Grand Helping Hand will help them with getting resources for their care packages.
"It's really important that everyone gets a bag, and this will help us do it."
