Strathcona County RCMP seized a cache of guns and drugs at a Sherwood Park traffic stop late last month.

On June 29, police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 216 near Baseline Road. Officers were unable to identify the driver and, as a result, detained a man who appeared to have cocaine on him.

A search of the vehicle found the following items:

  • 77 grams of what is believed to be cocaine
  • Two handguns and ammunition
  • An undisclosed amount of Canadian money

This resulted in the RCMP arresting 21-year-old Deonte Campbell, an Edmonton resident, and charging him with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (x2)
  • Possession of a stolen property

Campbell has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a provincial court early next month.

Anybody with additional information is asked to contact the Strathcona County RCMP detachment at 780-467-7741.
