Saskatchewan Parks are the place to be anytime, but on Parks Day, Saturday, July 15, there is added excitement. There are planned activities at most Saskatchewan Provincial Parks, including nearby Carlton Trail Historic Park and Green Water Lake Provincial Park. It’s part of Parks Week from July 9 – 15.

“From forests, to grasslands, to sand dunes, the diversity of Saskatchewan’s landscapes and parks often surprises visitors,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. “With exciting programs and events, Parks Week is a great time to explore and celebrate all the beauty our province has to offer.”

At Fort Carlton, near Duck Lake, visitors are invited to step back in time and experience life from a bygone era. Guests can explore the daily life of fur trappers and traders, experience Indigenous cultural presentations, relax with some tea and Bannock, learn about archaeology initiatives at Fort Carlton and more. Experience the fort buildings with knowledgeable interpreters and hike along Red River cart trails to enjoy the fort and river views.

Northeast of Humboldt at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, there are exciting activities planned throughout the day on Parks Day. July 15 features a 1 pm Greenwater History Hike along Highbush Trail. At 3 pm, the Amazing Race provides excitement at the beach, and 7 pm marks the Survive the Park program.

Later in the month, Saskatchewan Express makes a special visit to the park with its high energy show, Reel Music: The Sequel. It’s an epic movie trailer of the history of motion pictures featuring the hit classic songs that made them so popular. Kids can join a workshop before the performance. Cast members teach kids music, lyrics, and choreography for a number in their show, Reel Music: The Sequel, to perform that evening. The show is set for Greenwater Park on July 23 at 7 pm.

Saskatchewan Provincial Parks hold something for everyone, from cultural performances to the enchantment of Saskatchewan’s natural beauty. Find out more at the Saskatchewan Parks website.
