Wednesday afternoon at 3:50, a collision brought emergency crews to the northbound lane at the 1st Street and Highway 14 intersection. Initially, the call indicated there were three cars involved in a crash at the intersection but as the investigation unfolded, only 2 vehicles were damaged.
The light was green for the northbound traffic and a left turning vehicle had pulled forward slightly into the intersection waiting to turn safely, backing up traffic behind them. A northbound vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided with the last vehicle in line.
A passenger of one of the damaged vehicles was taken to Boundary Trails Hospital for further examination. One vehicle was towed from the scene.
Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt wanted to take this opportunity to remind motorists, "When an emergency vehicle is approaching with lights and sirens activated, the driver of a vehicle on the highway is required to safely move over as close as possible to the curb and stop until the emergency vehicle has passed."
