Sunday morning swim teams from across Manitoba gathered at the Winkler Aquatic Centre for the Winkler Barracuda hosted a swim meet, featuring a variety of events and heats for swimmers of all ages to compete and showcase their abilities.

Winkler Barracuda parent organizer Rhonda Rempel described the day.

"Today we hosted about 95 swimmers from all over southern Manitoba and we had our second meet of the season. It was a great event."

She explained why a day like this is important for kids.

"It's important to get our young kids out there and to get them supported. These kids love swimming. That's their sport, not baseball, not hockey, but swimming, rather, and this is a chance for them to showcase what they do."

Several teams made the trek to Winkler from across the province.

"We were here, obviously Winkler Barracudas and then we had teams come from Pilot Mound, Swan River, Neepawa, Manitou, Treherne and Beausejour."

The was considered a success with warm weather and all 39 events running smoothly into the early afternoon.

Rempel thanked the sponsors of the event and all those who helped out.

"All parents from our swimmers are here to volunteer. We also have some parents of coaches that come to volunteer or parents of past swimmers who have really enjoyed the program and just come back to volunteer and help us out. It takes a village, and we have a great supportive team here of parents of swimmers, of coaches putting this all together."
