The picketing in Portage la Prairie is over. The Manitoba Government and General Employees Union, which represents 1400 workers across the province, had been on strike since July 19th. However, a tentative agreement was agreed to yesterday (Wednesday).
The agreement between the MGEU and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries states that it will be a four-year contract, with compounding general wage increases yearly, but specific details have not been made public. They also agreed on pay scale adjustments and other shift premiums with benefit allowances with one-time lump sum payments.
The union's bargaining committee is recommended members accept the agreement and voting will take place between now and Sunday at noon.
