Paul Joseph Brochu
August 18th, 1943 – Sept 18th, 2023
Paul Joseph Brochu, age 80, passed away Monday September 18th, 2023, in the early morning hours while sleeping.
Paul was born August 18th, 1943, on the family homestead three miles east of Colonsay, Saskatchewan. He lived there for most of his life, farming the land and raising his family. He worked in various potash mines, as a welder, for the RM of Colonsay, and most importantly, as a farmer. He spent the last few years of his life in Caronport and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
Paul is survived by his wife Maggie; children Jodi, Paula (Thomas), and Lynne (Renton); grandchild Jesse (son of Jodi); siblings Annette (Dan), Alma (Emile), Rosalie (Frank), Joanne (Wes), and Anne (Rodney); as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Aime and Anne; daughter Kerry; siblings Aime (Joanne), and Gerry (Elsie).
Paul had a one-of-a-kind sense of humour. He’d often come out with the greatest one-liners in the most needed situations. For example, when waiting for a prolonged period of time in a line that was moving slower than molasses, he’d come out with “Well, had I anticipated this, I would’ve packed a lunch.” Paul loved singing and tapping his foot to country music. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Paul enjoyed camping with his family and woodworking in his shop. Paul drove many miles on various highways on his Harley Davidson motorcycles. Paul had a soft spot for Christmas lights and always made sure to put up an extensive Christmas display at the farm. Paul was always most at home on the farm.
Following Paul’s wishes, no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Paul to Diabetes Canada (make a donation to Diabetes Canada here), The Saskatchewan Alzheimer Association (make a donation to the Saskatchewan Alzheimer Association here), or the Colonsay Cemetery cheque made payable to: Colonsay Cemetery Committee, Box 130, Colonsay, Saskatchewan. “Hear my words that I might teach you; Take my arms that I might reach you.”
-Paul Simon, The Sound of Silence
Amazing Grace
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come
This grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright, shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
