Two local sisters and their families are $70,000 richer after their lucky numbers were drawn in the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation’s tenth 50/50 draw.

Sisters Tammy Shine of Fort Frances and Joleen Helliar of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls’ lucky number of J-3236148 was drawn on 11 a.m. on May 31, winning $70,762.

“We’ve been supporting for months now. We buy from you, Dryden, Fort, Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout,” said Shine. “This is definitely life-changing for sure and gives us a much-needed breather! Thank you!”

“The hospitals in Northwestern Ontario are doing an amazing job with these 50/50’s. With the times that we’re in right now, you can’t fundraise like before. I like to support them because you never know, one day it might be me that needs it.”

Tickets for June’s draw are on sale online now and will be available until June 29 at 9 p.m., with the draw taking place the following day at 11 a.m.

Early bird tickets are available until June 15 at 9 a.m., with the $1,000 prize being drawn at 10 a.m.
