Paramedics and front-line healthcare staff are making their way to remote communities across northwestern Ontario once again, as part of Operation Remote Immunity 2.0.
The original campaign was a provincial effort to administer 25,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to adults over the age of 18 in 31 fly-in communities across the Nishnawbe Aski Nation over the winter months.
Now, Operation Remote Immunity 2.0 aims to deliver both doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to youth between the ages of 12 and 17.
The two-month-long campaign plans to wrap up by the end of July. Health teams will also offer doses of the vaccine to residents who missed out during the first campaign.
Vaccination teams consist of medical professionals from a variety or healthcare partners, and they’ve all received the vaccine.
Ontario notes they’re hoping to vaccinate all youth before the end of August, to keep them as safe as possible before the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
