The William Glesby Centre was on 'poente' earlier this week when the Royal Winnipeg Ballet dancers hit the stage. 

Vanessa Leonard is the director of the Anna McCowan-Johnson Aspirant Program and mentions what the program is all about. 

"This program is a 2-year postsecondary program where students are transitioning from being a student into professional dancers. They train as a group. But, they also work a lot with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company and join in their big productions of Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, for example."

Don't get too excited about spring just yet, as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for some snow heading our way over the next couple of days.

As the snow starts to melt you may notice the roads starting to get worse. The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is trying to help flatten those roads by highlighting some of the worst in Manitoba.  

The Worst Roads Campaign concludes tonight at midnight, and Tim Scott, the President and General Manager of CAA Manitoba, says that the feedback has been tremendous so far.  

It was another successful weekend for the Portage Judo Club as they brought home some hardware. 

Brian Case, head coach of Portage Judo Club said he is very proud of their athletes. 

"The tournament was the Balmorals Open Judo tournament, which was held on Saturday, in Stonewall and there were 105 competitors there. We had twenty of them from Portage and of the 20 competitors we had from Portage, they managed to accumulate 25 medals, so it was quite a day for the local club." 

He also mentions that there were some pretty big battles over the weekend. 

Although you should ensure you are looking out for fraud each month, we like to pay extra attention in March because it is Fraud Prevention Month. 

Constable Larry Neufeld, Portage la Prairie RCMP media liaison officer, says there are many kinds of fraud. He says there are common frauds reported in our area, like identity fraud, personal information fraud, merchandise fraud, service fraud and emergency fraud.

Although International Women's Day was last week, the women of the Central Plains celebrated this past Thursday at the MNP Exhibition Building. 

International Women's Day - Strength of a Woman was put on by the Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce, Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation, Community Futures Heartland, Community Futures White Horse Plains, Military Family Resource Centre, and Central Plains Cancer Services. 

Starting today, K to 4 students at the Oakville School will begin a once-a-week Empathy Drama Workshop with Spencer Payne, an old student from the Manitoba Theatre for Young People, thanks to the Art Smarts Program. 

Monika Metzlaff, Kindergarten/ K-4 music teacher at Oakville School, says they are ecstatic to see this idea come to life. 

We're nearing the end of February and you may wonder what weather March will bring. 

We caught up with Terri Lang, a meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada. She says we still have quite a bit of winter ahead of us. 

"Well, we know that it can spill into May, so I wouldn't be surprised how not to get snow through March," says Lang. "We usually see more of a mix of rain or snow in April, but we also know that April can bring some of the heaviest snowfalls."

Sunny but chillier weather is on the horizon, which could be perfect for skating. Noah Fuchs with PortageOnline News took a trip down the Crescent to try some tricks and see what Skating on the Crescent is all about. Check out the video below to see how his adventure went.

The 150 Women Who Care have once again selected their five candidates who could receive $10,000 grant. 

At the event, each group will have five minutes to persuade the 150 women in attendance why they deserve the grant the most. Each guest will cast one ballot, which they will use to select the project they believe should win.
