Hospitals to be protected under Critical Infrastructure Defense Act
During Tuesday’s COVID-19 update, it was announced that hospitals and other health services facilities are now subject to the same protection that railways, highways, and pipelines receive under the Critical Infrastructure Defense Act.

Officials including newly appointed Health Minister, Jason Copping will be taking to podium this afternoon at 3:30pm MDT to address the COVID-19 crisis in Alberta.
Yesterday, the province reported 5,181 new cases of COVID-19 reported since Friday.
Doctors continue to sound the alarm of a near-collapse of the healthcare system and are calling for more extreme restrictions to be implemented.
There are 1,063 people in the hospital and a record number of 265 patients in ICU. Over 90% are not vaccinated.

Manitoba sees drop in daily COVID cases, tests
After recently seeing COVID-19 figures higher than Manitoba has had in months, Tuesday is seeing some lowered numbers.
Over the weekend Manitoba saw new COVID-19 cases rising to similar numbers from early summer, but on Tuesday, they dropped back down.
There are 42 new COVID cases, with nine of those cases being in people who are fully vaccinated, four in those who are partially vaccinated, and 29 in unvaccinated people.
Sep 28: 5 active cases of COVID-19 in NWO
Staff with the Northwestern Health Unit are reporting a new case of COVID-19 in the Dryden-Red Lake region today, even though it’s already considered resolved.
As it stands, this leaves the NWHU with a total of 5 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the region. Those cases include 3 in Rainy River, 1 in Kenora and 1 in Dryden-Red Lake. One resident is being treated in a local hospital.

Created by Indigenous physicians Dr. Lana Potts and Dr. James Makokis, the very first one was held at Mini’Thni (Stoney Nakoda First Nation) on Sept. 24.
Weekend COVID-19 numbers add up to over 5,000 new cases and 23 more deaths
There were 5,181 new cases of COVID-19 reported since Friday.
Friday saw 1,758, Saturday 1,541, and Sunday 1,758.
There are now 1,063 people in the hospital that is an increase of two since Friday.
Most concerning is that ICU admissions increased by 22 for a total of 265.
Equally concerning is another 23 deaths have been reported over three days bringing the total in the province to 2,645.
There are now 21,307 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
Manitoba in fourth COVID-19 wave
Manitoba is seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases, many of which are coming from one region with a lower population.
Dr. Brent Roussin says Monday's nearly one hundred new COVID-19 cases and the hundreds on the weekend are a clear indicator that Manitoba is in a fourth COVID-19 wave.
"We know that COVID is increasing. We are entering our fourth wave now," Roussin says. "We need to diminish transmission chains because we are seeing people getting sick. We are seeing people getting to ICU. We are seeing our numbers climb once again."
Alberta to receive help amid COVID-19 hospitalization crisis
Military support is being deployed to help Alberta’s overwhelmed ICUs.
The federal government confirms teams are mobilizing with Canadian Armed forces sending up to eight ICU nurses.
Military planes and crews will begin moving hospital patients to other provinces.
Care home residents eligible for third COVID vaccine next month
More Manitobans will be eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in October.
Next month all personal care home residents will be eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The homes are leading the clinics.
"We are working with the staff at many of the personal care homes to be able to administer doses the same way they do for other viruses like influenza, for example," Dr. Joss Reimer says in a Monday media briefing.
In other instances, the province will help if there is no staff to immunize.
