July 23: Zero new COVID-19 cases confirmed

The Northwestern Health Unit has reported zero new COVID-19 test results across the region. 

Currently, in the NWHU catchment area, there are 2 active cases. The two active cases are in the Rainy River Health Region. One of the cases in the Rainy River Health Region has an address in the NWHU jurisdiction but is isolating outside of the district.

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Ontario assists businesses through COVID-19 pandemic

In an effort to assist businesses to adapt to COVID-19 public health guidelines, the Ontario government is providing over $1.7 million to help 85 businesses in the Kiiwetinoong and Mushkegowuk – James Bay regions.

Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry held a video conference yesterday announcing the government funding alongside a few of the businesses receiving the assistance.

July 22: One new positive COVID-19 case reported

The Northwestern Health Unit has reported one new positive COVID-19 test result across the district. The newly discovered test result was found in the Rainy River Health Region.

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Currently, there are three active cases across the NWHU catchment area. One active case in the Kenora Health Region and two active cases in the Rainy River Health Region.

UPDATE: Leader of alleged Winnipeg Blue Bombers game disruption plan facing charge

Authorities say they have arrested a Winnipeg man after learning of plans to block the roads connecting to IG Field before a major event.

The Winnipeg Police Service says their Major Crimes Unit learnt that an anti-vaccination protest was being planned for August 5 before the Winnipeg Blue Bombers home opener. To attend the game all spectators will need to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and have proof.

The protest being planned was looking to block all roads entering IG Field before the game.

NWHU to host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Dryden tomorrow

Dryden residents will get the opportunity to receive their COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow.

The Northwestern Health Unit is hosting a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic tomorrow. The clinic will be located at Earl’s Court Downtown Dryden, beside the underpass.

The clinic will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first and second doses are available and no appointment is needed.

We're more hungry now: Ice Dogs head coach on 2021-2022 season

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs will drop the puck on their 20th season this fall for the 2021-2022 season. This season is important, not due to it being the 20th season, but the matter of this season being the first full season played in just about two years.

Staff, coaches, and players are hopeful for a full season and have fans return to the stands as the COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease and a sense of normalcy is promising for the fall.

Ice Dogs Head Coach and General Manager Kurt Walsten is looking forward to moving into this season.

A slight uptick in active cases seen in Wednesday's COVID-19 numbers

There were no new deaths from COVID-19 reported in the past 24 hours with the total remaining at 2,318.

There were 81 new cases reported with the positivity rate remaining below one per cent.

There are 649 active cases in Alberta, an increase of 43 in the past 24 hours. 

Hospitalizations dropped by one to 97 and ICU admissions remain unchanged at 27. 

Cochrane continues to hold at two active COVID-19 cases while Rocky View County added one for a total of eight cases.
