Mobile vaccination clinic makes first stop in K-Country

The first mobile vaccination clinic in Alberta has rolled into Kananaskis Country in an effort to bring vaccines to hard-to-reach people. 

The Traxx Coachlines motor coach bus, which has been converted into a mobile clinic, will travel to rural communities, remote camps and to places were the COVID-19 vaccine may be less accessible. 

Both first and second doses of the vaccine will be available on the mobile clinic. 

It came together in a joint effort between the province and the private business sector. 

Alberta adds 387 new cases from Friday to Sunday

Alberta Health Services provided a COVID-19 update for the span of Friday, July 23 to Sunday, July 25 totaling 387 new COVID-19 cases.

Friday added 151 new cases.

Saturday saw 142 new cases.

Sunday reported 94 new cases.

The 7-day average positivity rate is at 1.8 per cent.

Alberta has now jumped up to a total of 1,083 active cases, an increase of 407 since last Thursday.

Hospitalizations have dropped from 93 on Thursday to 83. ICU admissions have decreased by five to 21.

Province moving towards post-pandemic Manitoba

Manitoba's top doctor says a post-pandemic Manitoba is in the near future.

Lower daily case counts and high vaccination rates are changing the province's pandemic projection. Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba's Chief Public Health Officer, says in a Monday press conference that the province is on its way to moving away from being in a pandemic state.

Manitoba sees lowest new COVID case count since early September

Winnipeg's five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is less than two per cent.

As of Monday morning, there were 103 new COVID-19 cases throughout the weekend and Monday. This includes 62 cases on Saturday, 30 cases on Sunday, and 11 cases Monday.

There are also two new deaths including on Sunday a male in his 50s from Southern Health–Santé Sud health region, linked to an unspecified variant of concern. On Saturday a male in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern died.

July 26: Zero new COVID-19 cases in the region

The Northwestern Health Unit has reported zero new COVID-19 test results in the region from their last update on Friday.

Currently, there are 2 active cases connected to the NWHU catchment area. Both cases are in the Rainy River Health Region. One of the cases has an address in the NWHU jurisdiction but is isolating outside of the NWHU area.

Winnipeg airport planning for return of international travellers

Airport travel volumes are not taking off yet, but there is a welcome increase during what would typically be the busiest time of the year.

August was the pre-pandemic busiest time for airport travel. While the past year-and-a-half has been anything but ordinary, loosened restrictions are resulting in airplane traffic picking up. Michel Rosset, Communications Specialist with the Winnipeg Airports Authority says this summer they are seeing a boost in travellers.

More than 1.7 million COVID-19 vaccines given out in Manitoba

Winnipeg's five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is hovering above two per cent.

As of Friday morning, there are 41 new COVID-19 cases. This includes:

  • 19 new cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • 13 new cases in the Winnipeg health region
  • four new cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region
  • three new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region
  • two new cases in the Northern health region

Manitoba's five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is three per cent. In Winnipeg, the rate is 2.1 per cent.
