Booking of COVID-19 vaccination appointments for children ages 5-11 begins today

Children 5-11 will soon be able to get their first doses of the Pfizer vaccine. 

In a press release from the provincial government, children ages 5-11 will be eligible to book their first dose appointments starting today, November 23, 2021.  

The youngest children must be turning 5 years old by the end of 2021.  

Alberta adds 1,125 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths since Friday

The COVID-19 numbers over the weekend increased by 1,125 new cases.

Friday saw 470 new cases, Saturday 386, and Sunday 269 cases. 

Hospitalizations continue to drop and sit at 463.

ICU admissions increased slightly to 98.

Sadly, another six deaths have been reported bringing the death toll in Alberta to 3,217.

To date, 88.4 per cent of Albertans have now received one dose of the COVID vaccine while 83.2 per cent are fully immunized.

Cochrane is reporting 47 active COVID-19 cases and Rocky View County has 65 cases.

COVID-19: 459 new COVID cases since Saturday

New COVID-19 cases from the Southern Health region make up more than one-third of the new COVID-19 cases this weekend.

There are 459 new COVID-19 cases since Saturday being identified as of Monday morning. Manitoba's five-day test rate is 5.7 per cent and Winnipeg's rate is 2.9 per cent.

New cases this weekend include:

  • 164 cases on Saturday
  • 159 cases on Sunday
  • 136 cases on Monday

Parents book nearly 13,000 COVID vaccine appointments for children in 5 hours

The high demand for vaccinations of young children is resulting in Manitoba's supersites putting a pause on walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations.

More than 10,000 first-dose appointments have been booked for children aged five to 11 across Manitoba. There are roughly 125,000 children in this age group. Dr. Joss Reimer, Manitoba's co-lead of the COVID-19 vacation task force, says more than 6,000 children have contracted COVID-19 in Manitoba, with most having mild symptoms.

NWHU reaches a vaccine milestone

The North Western Health Unit reached a vaccine milestone last week.  

The Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) reports that 90% of the area’s residents aged 12 and older have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  

Over 130,000 doses of the vaccine have been given in the region. 

Hospitalizations from COVID Down, Vaccinations Continue to Increase

The provincial government reported 185 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday afternoon. In addition to the new cases, two deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported, as well as 186 recoveries.  

There are currently 1,167 active cases of COVID-19 throughout Saskatchewan, with 155 people in hospital receiving treatment. Of those who are hospitalized, 39 are in intensive care.
