Moose Jaw representatives return from SUMA convention
Representatives from the City of Moose Jaw have returned after attending the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association’s (SUMA) annual convention and trade show last week in Saskatoon.
City manager Maryse Carmichael, as well as two city councillors, attended the convention on behalf of the City of Moose Jaw.
Take 5 - Community Cleanup Day
Rob Carnie – And one more thing, just in time for the busy summer tourism season in Moose Jaw... Community Cleanup Day is coming up, May 10th, and everybody is invited to take part. What's happening?
Maryse Carmichael – Community Cleanup, we did a little bit of that already before the World Curling Championship. We wanted the city to look really, really good, but our official Community Cleanup will be on May the 10th.
Take 5 - Household Hazardous Waste Day, landfill and recycling update
Rob Carnie – It's landfill season, and a reminder: rates have gone up and a reminder for all residents that we have to tarp our loads, right?
Maryse Carmichael – We have beautiful weather; we have a little bit of time, and yard waste is something that we're all eager to clean our backyards and front yards. So we need to remember to tarp our loads as you are on your way to the landfill.
Take 5 - BKT World Men's Curling Championship retrospective
Rob Carnie - The dust has now settled on the BKT World Men's Curling Championship. I heard nothing but good things as a matter of fact, I took a call at the radio station not long ago from a man in Regina who just called to request a song and thanked Moose Jaw and Moose Jaw people for putting on a wonderful show.
He just had a blast around town doing some shopping, having some meals, and really enjoyed the curling as well.
Take 5 - A look back at the SUMA convention
Rob Carnie - SUMA, the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association. You just came back from the convention. Can you update us anything that you took away?
Maryse Carmichael – Yes, so it is an annual three-day convention. We alternate between Regina and Saskatoon.
Take 5 - 2025 Infrastructure Update
Rob Carnie - It's the latest edition of Take 5 with Carnie and Carmichael, featuring Moose Jaw City Manager Maurice Carmichael. So much to talk about today, including the fact that the City of Moose Jaw has released its Infrastructure Renewal Program locations for cast iron watermain and the capital projects Paved Roadways Projects.
Take 5 - Ice times, upcoming events, and community engagement
Rob Carnie - We're into the final days for the Kinsmen Arena; we got some ice times open but only until this weekend, right?
Maryse Carmichael - We're already thinking of clearing the ice some of our arenas, so you're right, the Kinsman Arena we have ice times open until March 16th.
Take 5 - Property tax discounts, open jobs at the city
Rob Carnie - Hey, the deadline for prepayment discounts on property taxes is up at the end of this month, let’s talk about that.
Maryse Carmichael - One thing that we have every year is the deadline for prepayment coming up at the end of March.
So, for all of you that want to go ahead and use the prepayment discount please go to MooseJaw.ca, have a look, and have look at the statements that we've sent.
Take 5 - CUPE negotiates with the City
Rob Carnie - Behind the scenes: negotiations with the CUPE union and an agreement reached.
Maryse Carmichael - Yes, so we do have three different unions at the city, and CUPE was the one that we've been in negotiations with, as the biggest number of employees at the city are part of the CUPE union.
Take 5 - Moose Jaw Events Centre rebrand, Shania Twain Concert
Rob Carnie - Big news from the City of Moose Jaw this week, the naming rights for what was at the Moose Jaw Events Centre, now Temple Gardens Center. A nice influx of cash from Peepeekisis First Nation.
Maryse Carmichael - That's right, we’re very, very pleased with this agreement that we have. It's the economic arm of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation: Peepeekisis Development Ltd.
