"Free Yard Waste Weekend" announced for Moose Jaw residents

Do you have yard waste you need to dispose of? This Victoria Day weekend is your chance to do so free of charge.

May 18 to 20 is the City of Moose Jaw’s “Free Yard Waste Weekend”. The $10 tipping fee for disposing of all organic yard waste, including leaves, grass clippings, and branches under 1 inch in diameter will be waived over the three-day period.

The city requests that material slated for disposal to be contained in clear or orange bags.

'Slushy situation' being addressed ahead of tonight's game

Slushy and wet ice was an issue at the Moose Jaw Events Centre (MJEC) last night.

The situation arose during Game 3 of the WHL Championship series between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Portland Winterhawks.

It was a sold-out crowd, with a full building less than 24 hours after Monday’s Foreigner’s concert that saw the ice covered.

Take 5 - Ice issues at game three of WHL Championship

Rob: Ice issues at the Moose Jaw Event Center. City Manager Maryse Carmichael alarming last night during game three of the Western Hockey League championship final. The ice got pretty slushy and pretty wet. It was 24 hours after we covered the ice for a Foreigner Concert. So there were some issues. City of Moose Jaw, Moose Jaw Event Center on it today.

Take 5 - Construction

Rob: Ah construction, the last time we got together for take five, we touched on this. The infrastructure renewal program, which includes water main replacement, the schedule is being finalized right now, and details on the first location set for water main replacement will be announced very soon.

Maryse: It will be announced, and I want to talk about it, mainly because there is some significant areas in town, busier areas, that are on their list for this year.

Take 5 - Left turn at Fairford and Main

Rob: Let's talk about one thing that has been a conversation, a topic of conversation on the MJ Talks Facebook page. One of the topics of conversation, the removal of the no left turn signs at the intersection, the busy intersection, of Fairford and Main downtown. For as long as I can remember there was no left turn on Fairford Street going on to Main Street. When you're heading East or West, you had to go straight through the intersection. Those signs are now down.

Take 5 - Aviation

Rob: It's Take Five, another edition of Take Five, featuring Moose Jaws’ City Manager Maryse Carmichael on Discover Moose Jaw dot com and we're going to start off with aviation, which is right up your alley. Of course, aviation has a significant place in Moose Jaw’s history and our future, the Royal Canadian Air Force commemorating the anniversary of 100 years just recently, and the committee will have other celebrations planned throughout the year.

Construction expected for Main Street in coming months

Residents are being reminded that some high-traffic streets in Moose Jaw will be closed for construction in the coming months for the city’s infrastructure renewal program.

This will include the zero block of Main Street North from Manitoba Street East to River Street East on the slate to have failing water main pipes replaced. There will also be paving from Manitoba Street to Fairford Street.

Take 5 - World Men's Curling 2025

Rob: One more thing I want to talk about and that was the big news that was announced, actually the cat was let out of the bag in the briar patch last Wednesday night. So, we already knew what the announcement was, but then it became official on Friday that the 2025 BKT Tires World Men's Curling Championship is coming to Moose Jaw in 2025. Moose Jaw will be welcoming the world next year to the Moose Jaw Events Centre, March 29th through April 6th. Wonderful.
