Firefighters battle past sunset at Winkler's Quality Inn and Suites

A devastating fire has left hearts broken in the City of Winkler.

Fire erupted at the Quality Inn and Suites on Main Street on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Winkler Fire Department and other emergency services.

According to a statement from Schinkel Properties, which owns and operates the hotel, the fire was first reported on the roof. All hotel and restaurant guests, staff, and pets inside at the time were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

A devastating fire engulfed and destroyed Grace St. John's Anglican Lutheran Church early Thursday morning (March 13), leaving the building a total loss.

At 4:10 a.m., Carman Dufferin Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a structure fire. Deputy Fire Chief Joey McElroy described the urgency of the response.

Frigid temperatures causing power outages: Manitoba Hydro

This morning, approximately 29 customers in a rural area east of Emerson, near Fredensthal along Highway 218, are experiencing a power outage.

Manitoba Hydro crews are actively working to identify and resolve the issue. The estimated time for power restoration is 10:00 a.m., though this could change depending on the complexity of the repairs.

Peter Chura, a spokesperson for Manitoba Hydro, provided an update on the situation, noting that crews are still investigating the cause.

Spring is an exciting time for all gardeners. Charlene Veenendaal shares her passion for gardening with the youngest generation of budding gardeners as the facilitator of the Junior Garden Club in Carman.

The Junior Gardener Club is for ages 6-12. The club embraces dirty hands, growing flowers and vegetables, and creating community. Veenendaal shared what children can expect as a part of the club.
