Storm Watch in effect, 100 km/h winds possible
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect in the Kenora and Dryden areas, calling for up to 100 km/h winds, nickel to quarter-sized hail and heavy downpours.
Environment Canada says they expect the storm to hit the area this afternoon or tonight.
Environment Canada adds that strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off of trees and overturn large vehicles, so residents should be prepared for severe weather.
17-year-old angler drowns near Ignace
A 17-year-old Wisconsin resident has passed away after a fishing trip on Kukukus Lake near Ignace.
The Ignace OPP say on June 21, officers were notified of an incident where two individuals had been fishing when one of them fell overboard into the water.
Police say the other individual jumped in the water to rescue the individual, but they couldn’t be found and the police were then contacted to conduct a search of the area.
Ministry investigating aggressive deer reports
Conservation Officers with the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry are looking into reports of an aggressive deer in the Second Street North area of Kenora.
Reportedly, the deer has approached and attacked two dogs in the last three days in the area. Residents in the Second Street North and Fourth Avenue areas are asked to keep a close eye on their pets when they’re outside.
Sioux Lookout resident wins $100,000 with ENCORE win
Sioux Lookout's Dean Larose is $100,000 richer after matching the last six of seven numbers in the LOTTARIO ENCORE draw.
He chose to play the extra loonie in the May 14, 2022 draw and turned one figure into six. Dean, a retiree, says he has been a regular lottery player since 1975.
"I've been playing my own numbers, and this is my first big win," he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. "I always say yes to ENCORE!"

Sports Update June 22
St. Thomas Aquinas High School hosted the 7/8 All Catholic Soccer Championships yesterday. Sacred Heart from Sioux Lookout and St. Joseph’s from Dryden traveled to Kenora to take on the SAINTS. T.A split their squad into two teams for the championship, and both went undefeated during round-robin play resulting in them going head to head for Gold. It was the T.A black team came out on top over the red.

Environment Canada warns that clusters of thunderstorms with high winds are expected to develop this afternoon or tonight, with up to 90 km/h winds. The storms are expected to begin near the Manitoba border and move eastward.
