Rotary donation secures new equipment for Splash Park, Norman Park
The Kenora Rotary Club’s Splash Park and the City of Kenora's Norman Park will both be seeing a few new pieces of equipment thanks to a donation from Rotary members.
Rotarian Jon Dahl explains that Rotary’s donation of $12,353 will be used to purchase new picnic tables, benches and garbage cans at the Rotary Splash Park and the new accessible playground area at Norman Park.
Kenora Mayor Andrew Poirier joined Rotarians, city staff, councillors and local children for Rotary’s announcement earlier this week.
Melillo looking ahead to 2023 session of Parliament
Kenora MP Eric Melillo says he and his party are taking a close look at their priorities to help ‘fix Canada’ over the holiday break, as the House of Commons gets set to return next month.
Melillo, who also serves as the PC’s Shadow Minister for FedNor and Deputy Shadow Minister for Crown-Indigenous Relations, says the Conservatives are hosting a series of meetings to determine their priorities for the upcoming Parliament session at the end of January, after adjourning on December 14.

It was a tough go for the Kenora Thistles last night in Winnipeg. They were facing off against the Thrashers but fell 5-2 at the Gateway Recreation Centre.
The Thistles are now on a break until January 7, when they’ll face off against the Yellowhead Chiefs.
The Winnipeg Jets are in Boston to take on the NHL-leading Bruins tonight. The Jets enter the contest a point behind the idle Dallas Stars for first place in the Central Division. They will be in tough against the Bruins, who boast an impressive 17-0-and-2 record at home.
Kenora man found dead near Ignace, investigation begins
The OPP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 35-year-old Kenora man in Ignace, after he was found near Canadian Pacific Railway tracks on December 19.
The Ignace OPP says officers responded to a report of a deceased pedestrian in the Osaquan Township near Ignace at 9:30 a.m. on December 19, with Northwest EMS paramedics.
The pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene. They have been identified as a 35-year-old male from Kenora. Their name has been withheld by police.
Toronto and Vancouver airports warn of operational impacts today due to weather
A major winter storm bearing down on Toronto is adding to the calamity in Canadian airports already plagued by flight cancellations and delays set off early this week by heavy snow in Vancouver.
Environment Canada says Toronto's storm will begin today with rain or snow followed by plummeting temperatures, a potential flash freeze and blizzard-like conditions Friday.

Pinecrest’s COVID-19 outbreak to continue to Dec. 30
Leadership with Kenora’s Pinecrest Home for the Aged says after consultations with the Northwestern Health Unit, their COVID-19 outbreak status and associated restrictions are expected to continue until December 30 at least.
The COVID-19 outbreak was reported on December 10 as two residents tested positive for the illness.
Local First Nation gets $1.8 million for women’s shelter
A First Nation community in northwestern Ontario is seeing a $1.8 million investment from Ottawa to build a new healing space and women’s shelter for the community.
Big Grassy First Nation, located south of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls off of Highway 71, was visited by Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Marc Miller this week to announce the construction of the new building, through the Cultural Spaces in Indigenous Communities Program.

The Kenora Under 18 AAA Thistles are on the road today for their final game of 2022. They'll be in Winnipeg to take on the Thrashers.
Kenora's looking for a third straight win as they're coming off a 6-4 victory over the Bruins and 7-5 final over the Wild. They'll take a break after tonight and return to the Kenora Rec Centre to host the Yellowhead Chiefs for a two-game series.
