Survivors unite to deliver message on Holocaust remembrance
Holocaust survivors across the world have united to deliver a message on the dangers of unchecked hate and the importance of remembrance at a time of rising global antisemitism.
In a video released Thursday to mark Yom HaShoah -- Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day -- 100 Holocaust survivors asked people to stand with them and remember the Nazi genocide to avoid repeating the horrors of the past.
Comrie stops 35 and Connor has three-point night as Jets blank Flyers
Eric Comrie stopped all 35 shots he faced as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 Wednesday night at Canada Life Centre.
The 26-year-old Edmonton native recorded his first NHL shutout and first win since March 25th.
Comrie has allowed three or fewer goals in 14 of his 15 starts this season.
Kyle Connor, who is the Jets nominee for the Lady Byng Trophy, scored his 46th goal of the season into an empty net with 38 seconds left in the third period.

The Saint Thomas Aquinas Saints and the Beaver Brae Broncos co-hosted the first badminton action of the season yesterday where 70 teams competed in over 250 games.
It was T.A that took first place in Junior Boys Singles, Junior Girls Doubles, and Senior Mixed Doubles. The Broncos came first in Junior Mixed Doubles, Rainy River earned first in Senior Boys Singles, Senior Girls Doubles as well as Junior and Senior Boys Doubles. It was Red Lake who took first in Junior and Senior Girls Singles.

OPP lay charges for drugs, explosives in Red Lake
A 33-year-old Red Lake resident is facing charges of possessing drugs and explosives, after being busted for impaired driving in Ear Falls.
The Ear Falls OPP say officers from Red Lake and Ear Falls initiated a traffic stop on April 25 on Chestnut Street in Ear Falls, and determined that the driver of the vehicle had been consuming alcoholic beverages.
The OPP say the operator was placed under arrest and refused to provide breath samples while at the detachment. Police also say they seized methamphetamine and explosives through their investigation.
‘We’re very excited’, Unifor rep on restart, relocation of Kenora mill site
Soon enough additional jobs will be available in the Kenora area, after GreenFirst Forest Products Inc. announced its plan on Friday (April 22, 2022) to restart and relocate the former Kenora Forest Products mill site.
GreenFirst says the new mill will create up to 85 new direct jobs and potentially more than 135 indirect jobs.
Stephen Boon, Unifor National Representative who has been in discussions with GreenFirst says he’s glad there is finally a direction and a plan for the former mill.
2021 census shows number of seniors over 85 expected to triple in next 25 years
The latest census data from 2021 shows Canada’s seniors over the age of 85 are among the fastest growing age groups in the country, marking another milestone on the slow march to what experts warn will be a crisis in care for the country’s elders.
Between 2016 and 2021, the number of people aged 85 and older grew by 12 per cent — more than twice as high as the overall growth of the Canadian population at 5.2 per cent.
The number of people over 85 more than doubled since the 2001 census, and is expected to triple by 2046.
Ontario’s closure of Kenora youth centres ‘unreasonable and wrong’
One year after the abrupt closure of two youth centres in Kenora, Ontario’s Ombudsman says the government’s decision was found to be ‘shrouded in secrecy, unreasonable and wrong,’ as they left up to 10 youth, their families and their communities ‘in the dark’.
Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé has completed its report on the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services’ decision to close youth detention programs in Kenora in April of 2021, saying the government’s over-reliance on ‘secrecy’ came at a price for Indigenous youth and local staff.

The Kam River Fighting Walleye are still in it. They outscored the Red Lake Miners in game four of the SIJHL finals 3-2 last night. Going into the game, Red Lake led the best-of-seven series three games to none. Game five goes tomorrow night.
It's badminton time in Kenora. Both the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints and Beaver Brae Broncos will co-host the first NorWOSSA badminton competition of the season. 290 games will be played at both high school courts including 70 teams of boys, girls and mixed doubles as well as singles.
19-year-old suspect in suspicious death found, charged
Officers with the Dryden OPP have located and charged 19-year-old Nashawn Trevel Beals of Toronto, after he was wanted in connection with a suspicious death in Dryden last month.
Human trafficking investigation by T3PS, OPP leads to an arrest
A Grassy Narrows First Nation resident is facing a number of charges related to human trafficking.
On April 9, 2022, Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS), and OPP investigators within the Provincial Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence-led Joint Force (IJFS) arrested a 32-year-old male resident of Grassy Narrows. The name of the accused is withheld to protect the identity of the victim by the police.
The accused party will appear in court on the following charges under the Criminal Code:
