Kenora Jail expansion to receive further funding
Kenora Corrections will see significant funding from the Ontario Government.
$96 million will go towards both the expansion projects at the Kenora Jail and the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre. This comes along with the announcement of the development of a new state-of-the-art Thunder Bay Correctional Complex, which cost $1.2 billion.

Government calls inquiry into use of Emergencies Act
Federal ministers defended the government's use of the Emergencies Act Monday as they announced an independent public inquiry to investigate the use of the act to end blockades at Canadian border crossings and in Ottawa earlier this year.
The Liberal government declared an emergency under the act for the first time in history on Feb. 14, granting extraordinary temporary powers to police to clear people out and to banks to freeze the accounts of some of those involved.

After two losses to open the series, the Kam River Fighting Walleye are now down 3-0 against the Red Lake Miners in the best of seven finals of the SIJHL playoffs. The Fighting Walleye are in their first season in the league, and are now one loss away from elimination after a 7-1 drumming last night. The Miners take on the Fighting Walleye again tonight in Red Lake’s Cochenour Arena.
Lengthy pursuit leads to NB man behind bars
The Dryden OPP has a New Brunswick man is in custody, following a lengthy pursuit.
On Sunday (April 24, 2022), OPP officers were notified of a vehicle fleeing from Thunder Bay after failing to pay for fuel.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 17, east of Dryden. An attempt to stop the suspect resulted in the accused colliding with a police vehicle, he then proceeded to flee the scene.
Environment Canada reveals rainfall totals following weekend storm
Northwestern Ontario went through its first major rainstorm of the season this past weekend.
On Thursday (April 21, 2022) Environment Canada was forecasting around 30 to 50 mm of rain to fall in the Kenora area starting Friday afternoon (April 22, 2022) and continuing throughout the weekend.
Gerald Cheng, an Environment Canada Meteorologist, says the area received the rainfall amounts and more that were forecasted.
“For Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 33 mm of rain fell in Kenora and also 4 cm of snow so we had a bit of everything.”
Speedway releases 2022 schedule
Lake of the Woods Speedway has released the summer 2022 racing schedule. Again this year, fans will see the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Pure Stocks and 4 Cylinders on the 1/3 mile oval located at 556 Jones Road.
“We’ll also have WISSOTA Modifieds on our season opener July 3, as well as the two-day show August long weekend,” said Anthony Leek, President of Kenora Motorsports Entertainment.
Home invasion leads to an arrest for Pickle Lake OPP officers
A Pickle Lake resident is facing numerous charges, following a report of a home invasion.
On April 21, 2022, at around 9:00 p.m., Members of the Pickle Lake OPP responded to a call for assistance at a residence on Lakeview Crescent. The OPP, says that two individuals forcefully gained entry to the residence and then damaged the property and assaulted the homeowner.

It was announced on April 9, through a Facebook post, that Dryden will soon have a dog park located in Dryden’s Rotary Park.
Melillo criticizes Feds 'reckless spending' as inflation rates continue to rise

Kenora MP, Eric Melillo, was recently on the QMorning show to express his concern for the rising costs, “The cost of living has been nearing record highs for some time now and it's not showing any sign of slowing down.”
