Multiple lynx sightings reported in Kenora area
Conservation Officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are offering safety tips after multiple lynx sightings have been reported in the area.
A lynx was recently photographed standing on a deck on Carlton Road, and a group of lynx have also been reported in the Sunset Point area, near Minaki.
Sgt. Gord Ewald of the Ear Falls OPP was out for a run when he came across a lynx enjoying an afternoon snack on March 24.
Two years later, 26-year-old Turnbull is still missing
It’s been two years since 26-year-old Alyssa Turnbull was reported missing in the Nipigon area, and police are still searching for answers.
A $50,000 reward is being offered for any information related to her disappearance, leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible or for information resulting in locating her.
HWY 17 reopens
After a 15-hour closure, Highway 17 has been reopened between the Manitoba border and Shabaqua Corners.
According to Ontario 511, Highway 17 between Kenora and Dryden is listed as partly snow-covered to snow-covered with reduced visibility in some seconds. Dryden to Thunder Bay is listed as bare.
At this time, Highway 502, 599, 516, and 642 remain closed.
There is no word on when the highways will reopen.

Snow to continue through Thursday, 10 cm of snow expected
Residents of northwestern Ontario woke up to a bunch of snow on Thursday morning (April 14, 2022), that fell rapidly overnight because of a massive spring storm.
Environment Canada says the bulk of the storm, that was predicted for Kenora, fell last night.
“At the Kenora Airport so far 15 cm of snow has been reported as of this morning [Thursday],” said Gerald Cheng, Environment Canada Meteorologist.
Cheng notes that residents will not get any reprieve from the snow on Thursday and even into Friday.
Apr. 14 Sports Update
The Dryden GM Ice Dogs are in dire need of a win after they fell another game to the Red Lake Miners last night 5-4. Dryden scored the first goal of the game in the first period, but Red Lake answered back with 2 goals and then 16 seconds later added another. The game went into overtime where the Miners' Noah Kramps got past Ice Dogs netminder Cole Johnston. The Miners lead 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.
Snow Day official for schools in the region
Students and staff in the region will have an extra-long Easter weekend.
All schools within the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and Kenora Catholic District School Board are officially closed for the day.
In a joint release, the Boards said, "the decision to close schools is always made with the safety, well-being and security of students, staff, and families in mind."
The Northwestern Student Services Consortium announced early this morning that they have cancelled all buses for the region.

For the second consecutive day, the Northwestern Student Services Consortium has canceled all buses.
The winter storm warning continues for the region as a Colorado Low slammed the region, bringing with it heavy snow and rain.
Students in Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Red Lake and Ear Falls are set for an extra-long Easter long week as the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB), the Kenora Catholic District School Boards (KCDSB) and CSDC des Aurora Boreales have cancelled classes today.
Canadian troops heading to Poland to help Ukrainian refugees
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces are set to depart from an Ontario military base today to help with the care, co-ordination and resettlement of Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
Defence Minister Anita Anand is expected to announce and oversee the deployment from Canadian Forces Base Trenton this morning after a reconnaissance team visited Poland last week to plan for the mission.
An additional 15-20 cm of snow expected Thursday
Environment Canada says residents will wake up to a bunch of snow on Thursday (April 14, 2022) as a Colorado Low continues to blast through the region.
Steven Flisfeder, Environment Canada Meteorologist, said Wednesday afternoon, the bulk of the snow was expected to fall Wednesday night into Thursday (April 13, 2022).
“By tomorrow morning [Thursday] we should be seeing totals including what fell already today [Wednesday] of totals of about 10-20 cm,” said Flisfeder.
Spring storm cancelling, postponing many Easter travel plans
Residents in the region have already started to rearrange, postpone, or cancel their Easter plans, amid an expected 20-35 cm of snow to fall by Friday.
Due to the heavy snowfall, travel has been discouraged for northwestern Ontario and parts of Manitoba.
One Kenora resident was expecting company over the long weekend from Manitoba but due to the storm has had to postpone those plans a few days.
