Major road closure in Dryden starting today
A number of roads will be closed in Dryden starting today.
The City of Dryden announced that starting today, the King Street Underpass will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This closure will last from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily, both today and tomorrow, August 9.
This closure is necessary to complete road maintenance.
Treaty #3 Youth dominate at the Ontario Summer Indigenous Games
A large group of Treaty #3 youth athletes recently returned home after a very successful trip to Ottawa.
Tania Cameron and her group of 60 youth athletes and 8 coaches returned home from the recent Ontario Summer Indigenous Games in Ottawa last week. Four volleyball teams and three basketball teams all came home with some hardware.
Parliamentary committee to begin study of RCMP's use of cellphone spyware
A parliamentary committee will begin exploring the RCMP’s use of spyware on Monday, diving deeper into an issue that's sounded alarms for privacy and civil liberties groups across the country.
The House of Commons ethics and privacy committee called for a summer study after the RCMP revealed its use of tools that covertly obtain data from devices like phones and computers.
Help bring Goaty home this Sunday
Kenora residents can meet the myth in person.
Goaty, northwestern Ontario’s famous goat, will be at Pet Valu at 5 Chipman Street this Sunday as its caretaker, Amy Mosionier, hosts a fundraising barbecue to bring Goaty to a new home.
Mosionier says the barbecue will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Pet Valu’s parking lot, and all funds raised will be donated to Goaty’s GoFundMe campaign to bring him to the Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary near London, Ontario.

In Kenora Slo pitch, Northern Harbour defeated River View Thursday night 34-8. Bobs Burgers beat CUPE 22-8, Kenora DJ services beat the Neniska Crushers 20-9 and KTown Kafe downed the CarStar Renegades 25-18.
10-year-old injured after bear attack
A 10-year-old boy is recovering from his injuries after he was attacked by a black bear in Grassy Narrows First Nation.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry says the attack was reported to the Ministry on the evening of July 25, and staff from the Kenora office attended the scene the following morning to conduct their investigation.
They say the 10-year-old was taken to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for medical attention after the attack, receiving care for his wound before returning home.

The federal government and Kenora’s Member of Parliament, Eric Melillo, say they’re outraged by the actions of Hockey Canada for covering up multiple sexual assault lawsuits and allegations, and for the use of nearly $8 million of public funds to pay off the victims.
Lake of the Woods expected to decline by 10 to 12 cm over the next week
The current level of Lake of the Woods is 323.99 m (1062.9 ft), over the 95th percentile for this time of the year. At this lake level, Lake of the Woods still remains between the 2014 peak of 323.78 m (1062.29 ft) and the 1950 peak of 324.31 m (1064.0 ft).
The dams in Kenora remain fully open and the lake level is expected to continue to decline by 10 to 12 cm (4 to 5 in) over the next week.
Moose n' Fiddle Musical Festival cancelled due to storm damage
The Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls had to make an unfortunate decision.
Municipal staff announced on August 3, via a Facebook post, that this year’s Moose n’ Fiddle Musical Festival is cancelled.
Flooding costs Kenora over $600,000, city to vote on insurance claim
Staff with the City of Kenora estimate that this spring and summer’s severe flooding has cost the city between $600,000 and $700,000.
During the city’s Committee of the Whole meeting on August 2 at City Hall, Director of Edie’s report detailed the city’s flooding-related expenses as of July 21 at $46,810 for general emergency measures, $322,889 for road work and $18,325 for park rehabilitation work.
