FOUND: Police looking for missing Rory Magnusson

Treaty Three Police is looking for your help finding missing 29-year-old Rory Magnusson.

Magnusson was last seen at approximately 2 am on Saturday, July 9, 2022, and is described as a caucasian male with an average build with short curly red hair and blue eyes.

Police believe Magnusson is in the community of White Dog or the township of Minaki.

Interac services "fully available" again after Rogers outage

Interac says its services are fully available again after debit transactions were halted by a widespread Rogers network outage impacting mobile and network services across much of Canada.

Interac issued a statement on its social media platforms apologizing for the inconvenience and saying it is adding a supplier to bolster service access in the future.

Rogers Communications says it has restored mobile and internet service for "the vast majority" of customers after the outage that got underway early Friday morning and lasted more than 15 hours.

Speedway week 2 in the books

Friday night racing at Lake of the Woods Speedway was an excellent display of driving from all three classes.

For a second week in a row the Q104 WISSOTA midwest modified #4b of Brandon Rehill dominated in the feature race, with Ed Bell’s #14 in second and Sioux Lookout’s #10d of Pat Davis in third.

The WISSOTA pure stocks had a rookie driver, Alexander Farr take the chequered flag in their 20 lap feature. This was Farr’s first feature win in the pure stock class.  

Donations pouring in for family of Juan Miguel Tan

The community is showing its support to a Kenora family, who is grieving after the loss of 16-year-old Juan Miguel Tan (Rondilla). 

The Kenora O.P.P. reported the discovery of the young man after he had gone missing from Town Island on Lake of the Woods. He was reported missing Sunday after last being seen early that morning while on a camping trip with friends. No foul play was suspected. 

A Kenora resident set up a GoFundMe page to assist Juan's family with funeral costs. 

Eagle Lake FN talent drafted by Vancouver Canucks

Eagle Lake First Nation’s Daimon Gardner is one step closer to his dream of playing in the NHL.

The 6’4”, 200 lb centre has been selected 112th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft held in Montreal this weekend.

He was ranked as the #54th best prospect in this year’s draft by Elite Prospects. They say Gardner’s elite senses help him drive the middle lane and he uses his large frame to protect against defenders. As well, he’s strong offensively and is willing to win battles, bully defenders and create screens in front of the net.

Red Lake Hospital temporarily unable to deliver newborns due to staff shortages

More service disruptions are to happen at Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital (RLMCMH).  

Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital (RLMCMH) announced that due to the current physician shortage, the hospital will, unfortunately, have to suspend its Obstetrics program.  

The temporary suspension will last from now to August 3, 2022.  

Rogers outage affects 911 calls, debit transactions and sends droves to coffee shops

Canadians woke up Friday morning to a widespread network outage at Rogers Communications Inc. that left many customers without mobile and internet service and caused trouble for 911 services, debit transactions and even Service Canada's beleaguered passport offices.

A notice on the Toronto-based telecommunications company's website said the outage was impacting both its wireless and home service customers and is also affecting phone and chat support. 

Assassinated Japanese leader was close friend to Canada: Trudeau

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the assassination of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe is "shocking," and that Canada has "lost a close friend" with his death.

Abe was assassinated Friday on a street in western Japan by a gunman who opened fire on him from behind as he delivered a campaign speech — an attack that stunned the country that has some of the strictest gun control laws anywhere.

Service down for Rogers/Tbaytel customers

For all cellular users on multiple cell networks, the only calls out that can be made are for emergencies across Canada.

The issue seems to span across a few Canadian provinces as customers start the day. The issue started in the middle of the night.

There were 1,000 reports of no service or internet for Rogers customers by 5:00 a.m. As of 9:18 a.m. Down Detector is reporting that the issue is broader. It includes Rogers, Fido, Bell, Telus, Virgin, Koodo, and BellMTS. Many companies are also experiencing internet issues. 

Richards named to Lakehead’s Wall of Fame

A hometown hockey hero is being recognized by Lakehead University.

Nicknamed ‘The Kenora Komet’ in his youth for his blistering speed, Kenora’s Jeff Richards has been named to Lakehead University’s Wall of Fame ahead of the 2022-2023 school year, with an official induction ceremony set for October.

The 5’10” forward is Lakehead’s second-leading all-time scorer with 252 points in 170 games and could be considered the best and most impactful player in Thunderwolves history.
