PM Carney travelling to Rome Friday for Pope Leo's inaugural mass
Prime Minister Mark Carney is heading to Rome on Friday to attend Pope Leo's inaugural mass.
The Prime Minister's Office said in a news release Tuesday that Carney will be in Rome from May 16 to 19.
The ceremony, which marks the official start of a pope's term, will take place on Sunday, May 18, at St. Peter’s Square.
The news release said it is a "longstanding tradition of the Catholic Church, and a defining moment in Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate."

Jets on brink after 3–1 loss to Stars in Game 4
The Winnipeg Jets find themselves on the brink of elimination after a 3–1 loss to the Dallas Stars in Game 4 of their second-round playoff series on Tuesday night.
Despite another strong start and a solid performance through much of the game, Winnipeg was once again stymied by Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger and undone by a Mikael Granlund hat trick. With the loss, the Jets now trail 3–1 in the best-of-seven series.
The series shifts back to Winnipeg for Game 5 on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
New extended hours Primary Care Clinic Opens at Victoria Hospital
A new Extended Hours Primary Care Clinic will open this week in south Winnipeg.
The province announced today the new clinic, which is open evenings and weekends, will open at the Victoria General Hospital on Thursday.
8 children injured after school bus collides with tractor in southwestern Manitoba
Eight students from the Prairie Spirit School Division were taken to hospital following a collision involving a school bus Tuesday morning.
The crash which involved a school bus and a tractor, happened at around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Road 37 and Road 43 north, in the RM of Grey.
RCMP say a grader travelling Road 37 West was pushing debris along the road and being collected by a tractor when the school bus rear-ended the tractor. The grader was not involved in the collision.

At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Winnipeg claimed a sweltering and surprising title: the hottest major city in the world.
With the temperature reaching 36.4°C at the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, Manitoba's capital was hotter than major global hotspots like Managua (Nicaragua), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Dubai (UAE), San Salvador (El Salvador), Kuwait City, and Houston, Texas. While cities in the Middle East were in the middle of the night at that time, it's still an eye-popping stat for the middle of May in Manitoba.
Nopiming Provincial Park evacuated, others on standby
More cottagers in the Whiteshell have been told to be ready for an evacuation order, as the result of an active wildfire burning near Ingolf, Ontario.
According to our province, an evacuation preparedness advisory has been issued for cottagers on the north side of West Hawk Lake, as well as Caddy Lake, Florence Lake, and Nora Lake. Residents in these areas are strongly encouraged to be ready for an evacuation, should conditions get worse.
Several trails, water routes, portages, and backcountry campsites in Whiteshell Provincial Park are now closed until further notice.
