Premiers meet with PM Mark Carney, call for end to internal trade barriers

Several of Canada's premiers called for the elimination of interprovincial trade barriers on Friday ahead of a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Carney was meeting with premiers at the Canadian War Museum Friday afternoon to discuss the federal government's response to Chinese and U.S. tariffs.

Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said "we need a united Canada."

Designs for Manitoba flood prevention project to be completed this spring: minister

The Manitoba government expects new designs of a long-promised flood prevention project will be completed later this year after the province asked the federal government to pause environmental assessments to address concerns from local First Nations.

The Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin outlet channels project was featured heavily in the NDP government's latest budget released Thursday.

The spending plan outlines the province's commitment of $809 million for various infrastructure projects, including building the two channels.

'He lived a life marked by unwavering faith': George Foreman dead at 76

Olympic gold medalist, former boxer, savvy businessman and preacher George Foreman has died.

Foreman's family say he died peacefully today surrounded by loved ones.

"A devout preacher, devoted husband, loving father and proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose," said his family in a post on Instagram.

Woman, 70, dies after falling through ice on Lake Winnipegosis

A 70-year-old woman is dead after falling through the ice on Lake Winnipegosis. 

RCMP say the woman was walking her two dogs Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m. and failed to return home.

A family member went to look for the woman and found one of the dogs sitting out on the ice.

Winnipegosis RCMP, along with the local fire department, attended the scene and began a search of the area which had open areas of water.

The victim was eventually located under the ice and recovered.
